My heads arrived today, allowing me to take pictures of the two projects I have going involving hair. On the right is my mid 14th century hair piece for Birka. It is based on the example from the Dress Accessories book, and is made from human hair, silk tablet woven ribbon, metal beads, and hand spun wool thread. Although I can only take credit for growing the hair, and for assembly. This turned out to be a much harder project than I thought it would be. I should have known. I can never get the hair on my head to do what I want, why did I think it would be any easier once it was cut off. Hopefully I can get some good shots of it with the rest of the outfit this weekend, but in case something goes dreadfully wrong, or I can't find a photographer, I wanted to get a few taken now.
The other head in the top picture is the wig I bought for my River Song costume. I think it is awesome, but I have no idea how to wear it. I can't even do anything with my own hair beyond wash, comb, and air-dry. I am assuming that some of the lace bit at the front is supposed to be trimmed off, but I have no idea how much. There are elastic bits that have it fitting very snug to that foam head, so I am not so worried about it falling off, but I could barely get is on there without making a frizzy mess. I am nervous to even touch it too much, so if anyone reading this has any idea on how to wear a wig, please send me any advice you can. Hair, not really my area.
See some of you at Birka in a couple of days.
